page 2! 2 pages in and I'm already starting to get better at backgrounds... fun!
What're your thoughts on this page? post below!
Note: "Bhikkuni" is the term for a female buddhist monk. (buddhist nun) In the future I'll put a little "*" by words that need to be clarified in the author notes.
Well, I came her from the critique thread. (I feel that I shouldn't do a critique since I'm neither an artist nor a writer.)
If you want to know my personal opinion:
- Please don't change the art style (much), it looks just fine, IMHO.
- Can't say much about the story yet, after 2 pages. The Cast page explains a bit about where they are and why they are together in this place but it's still too early for me to say something about the story.
But I have questions already:
- Do I need to know something about Buddhism to fully understand the comic? All I know is the short version of the legend/story about how it came into existence. And (if I understood these bits correctly) that the Buddha didn't want be considered as a god, and that, depending on how you live your life, you get re-born in a new state / a new body, over and over, until, if you improve yourself, you finally reach the state of Nirvana That's about all I know - is it enough?
- Panel 2: What does "Bhikkuni" mean? (By chance I have "known" someone on the internet who named himself "Bhikku ..." and I thought it was a part of his name.)
After-thought: One really needs to read the cast page to understand the "environment" of these two pages. Which probably isn't an issue anymore after some more pages.
-I'm not planning on changing the artstyle, I just used a little more lighting/layer masks in these later chapters, but overall it'll look the same.
-you don't really need to know that much about buddhism too understand the story. It's good that you know what a monk/nun is and what their monastic life is, but it's not the main focus of the story. I list it as the tag-line cause buddhist themes will be a big part of the backdrop (and too get people more interested in buddhism and buddhist cosmology, that's my dream.)
-Because of your input I'm probably going to put notes in the author comment section of the pages. "Bhikkuni" is the official term for a buddhist nun. "Bhikku" is the male counterpart.
Thank you for commenting! I left a lot of things about their location kind of vague because I was going to elaborate on that in the next page. This is still really helpful input, thank you.
Thank you (too) and twice (too):
For your answers - I already learned something.
And for making the comic about Buddhism - I'd love to learn more about it! (I had a falling out with my religion (Christianity), its god cannot exist, longer story, probably off-topic), so if you want to spread some info about it, you have one "follower", well, I already subscribed before :-)
Edit: I don't know anything about Buddhist monks or their life, so I'll ask :D
